Greetings, friends. I know this email is off-topic, but I am writing for some help from those of you who understand what an important role community plays in our lives.
I am always trying to live as intentionally as possible, and while it isn't always as easy to feel connected to community in NYC, I am reaching out to all of you with an offer of a bedroom in a lovely three bedroom apartment in Astoria in hopes that I can continue to cultivate community in my home. Please share with like-minded folks and pass as widely as possible. If you know of any good places to post in NYC, please let me know. Thank you so much for your support. Be Well, Rena _______ I have a spacious, sunny bedroom available for rent in a three-bedroom apartment in Astoria. The rooms are charming, with hardwood floors and original molding throughout. Plenty of shared closet space and a large kitchen make this a very desirable home. Location: 5 blocks from the 46th Street R,V,G; 15 minutes by subway to midtown; five blocks from Steinway Street; nice ride to Noguchi or Astoria Park by bike. Rent: $667 a month plus cooking gas and water (~ $35-$40 a month). We require $2000.00 (first, security, and 1/3 of broker's fee) upon move in. Lease runs from November 15, 2008 through the end of August 2009. Room is unfurnished. About us and the apartment: We are two professional women (a high school English teacher and a children's book editor) in our mid twenties and we have two sweet cats. We consider this space to be our home and like to keep it as peaceful as possible. We are environmentally conscious vegetarians with an eye toward sustainable lifestyles wishing for someone similar. We try to live as cooperatively as possible. My aspirations for a shared space (much room for change and growth): people cooking, preparing, planning together, sense of a comfortable, familial bond. It is not as easy to do this in an apartment in NYC, but I think with shared values (and food choices!!) we can do a good job of it. We are not a party home and are tv-free, but welcome people who enjoy the woods, cooking, yoga, meditation, art projects and any forms of self expression, tea, live music, green vegetables, and the occasional potluck with friends. Or perhaps you enjoy none of the above but can knock our socks off pleading your case for the room! We like good stories. If interested, please respond to this post and tell us about yourself and how you see yourself fitting in our house. Please be: Financially secure and non-smoking. Serious inquiries only. Thanks!
