I will be airing one of my past Nature Nearby episodes on Ithaca, NY cable TV
public access channel 13 over the next month. In Going With the Flow in Watkins
Glen you follow Glen Creek down through the magnificent lower third of the
gorge at Watkins Glen State Park to Seneca Lake, set to classical music.
This show lasts 18 1/2 minutes and is immediately followed by a 6 1/2 minute
short about Sacketts Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site (an important War
of 1812 site) on the eastern end of Lake Ontario. I have posted abbreviated
versions of these two programs on YouTube. Details are below.
The Ithaca channel 13 schedule is as follows:
Friday, 11/21 1:00 p.m. Sacketts Harbor Battlefield SHS
7:00 p.m. Going With the Flow in Watkins Glen;
Sacketts Harbor Battlefield SHS
Sunday, 11/23 9:00 p.m. Going With the Flow in Watkins Glen; Sacketts
Harbor Battlefield SHS
Wednesday, 12/17 8:30 p.m. Going With the Flow in Watkins Glen; Sacketts
Harbor Battlefield SHS
Friday, 12/19 1:00 p.m. Going With the Flow in Watkins Glen;
Sacketts Harbor Battlefield SHS. (Right after Democracy Now)
The Sacketts Harbor program was produced by the Historic Site. I shortened it
to less than two minutes to put on YouTube to be embedded in a couple of local
websites promoting the park. You can see the shortened version at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBXqeH2Z6RU . Also, embedded in website at
http://www.sacketsharborny.com/ (scroll down).
I reduced Going With the Flow in Watkins Glen to under 7 minutes for YouTube
and you can see it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKPTBNxjtJ4 . This is also
accessible on my website at www.owlgorge.com.
The TV versions are only viewable on Ithaca's local Time Warner cable system.
Finally, I will be giving an illustrated reading of my book, A Walk Through
Watkins Glen: Water's Sculpture in Stone, this Saturday, November 22 at the
Museum of the Earth in Ithaca, as part of their Natural History at Noon series.
(That's right, it begins at noon.) A book signing will follow. For more
information about my book, go to www.owlgorge.com.
