Hello folks,
I'm seeing so many private replies sent to the list by mistake
that I'm wondering whether people even realize it's happening.
Just so everyone is aware:
If you're sending a private reply to a Sustainable Tompkins
message, DO NOT hit "Reply" and DO NOT hit "Reply all." Either of
these will send your mail to the whole list, because it's the list
address that appears in the "Reply-To:" line in the mail header.
(Sometimes the address of the original sender appears on that
line, too, but that won't prevent your reply from being sent to
the whole list.)
If you want to send a private reply using Thunderbird (I imagine
that something like this applies to other mail readers):
- Stay away from the Reply button!
- Right-click on the name in the "From:" line
- Select "Compose Mail To"
- Enter a suitable subject line
- Write your message and send it
If you want to quote the original message and don't want to enter
a new subject line, do this instead:
- Stay away from the Reply button!
- Right-click on the name in the "From:" line
- Select "Copy Email Address"
- Click on "Forward"
- Hit "Control-V" (or select Edit / Paste or right-click in the
To: field and select Paste) to put that address on the To: line
- Write your message and send it
(All of this assumes that you are not using the digest view.)
If anyone knows a quicker way to send a private reply, please
share with the rest of us.
Jon
