Dear Friends,

We'd like to invite you to our third annual
Greenery Day -- you can cut your own tree or
greenery -- on Saturday, December 13, at
Greensprings Natural Cemetery Preserve in
Newfield, NY. We're thinning some young red pine
trees from a future burial area, and you can help
us by taking home a tree.

Though the red pines haven't been shaped as
Christmas trees, they're pretty nice. Or if you
don't need a tree, pine boughs are a lovely touch
around the house for the holidays. If you like
long-needle trees, these are right for you.

We'll start at 11 a.m. and go until 2:00
p.m.--snow, rain, or shine. (Directions follow.)

We'll serve hot coffee (donated by Buzz Coffee
Drive-thru), hot ginger-lemon tea, hot cider, and
brownies. Though it's by no means required, we'll
gratefully accept donations for trees.

Dress warmly! It can get windy on Irish Hill.
Bring your work gloves and a bucksaw if you have
one. We have twine for tying the trees.

News from Greensprings: we've nearly finished
recording a wonderful series of radio PSAs --
public service announcements -- that we'll send
to stations all through the Finger Lakes. Tracey
Craig, host and producer of WVBR's Nonsuch on
Sunday mornings, along with our own Dick Cahoon,
are the voices you'll hear, while Greensprings
member Lang Elliot furnished the lovely bird
songs that underlie each. (Listen to samples of
his work at http://www.naturesound.com/) Thanks,
Tracey, Dick, and Lang! Next on the docket? Maybe
a TV PSA.

Also ... we've recently been certified by the
National Wildlife Federation for our Wildlife
Habitat.

Help us help others Š It's deeply satisfying,
being part of the Greensprings team. Care to join
us? Whether it's helping us table at events like
the Ithaca Festival or with outreach and work
parties (think of that break for stunning views
from our overlook) or putting your marketing or
clerical savvy to such good use, we'd enjoy the
pleasure of your company.

>From our to-do list:

Job title, description:

Book compiler: Create book of readings -- poetry
and prose, spiritual and secular -- families may,
if they wish, use in simple graveside services.
Organize broadly in sections (with table of
contents and perhaps an index) that families can
flip to depending on their affiliations (or lack
of).

Š and skill set needed:

Capable, self-starter. Able to seek material from
many sources and organize it well. Sets own
schedule.

We look forward to seeing you. Please don't
hesitate to forward this invitation to your
friends.

Take care,
the Greensprings team
