Hi folks I'm involved with after school gardening and cooking programs Monday- Friday 4:00-5:30 with kids who come to BJM school or GIAC. I would love to recruit from our midst some 1-time (or more) volunteers who garden &/or cook locally/seasonally to enrich these programs.
I'm directly involved 2 days a week with an IC student , with kids from the GIAC after school program, combining gardening and local food cooking with fourth, fifth and sixth graders who get very excited about this stuff. I'm also connected to and supporting Haley Graves, at [email protected] , who works five days a week with the BJM after school program - garden club one day and cooking program the other four. Her cooking program is very popular and she's just getting started on the local seasonal cooking approaches, so some guest chefs would be very much appreciated. She's also looking for fresh approaches for a gardening program in the winter months. We would provide the food and cooking supplies, and kid management, and you could think though with us some cooking or gardening activity you'd like to share. It has to start and finish within 90 minutes, including eating, so the prep and the scale of the activity is very important. On Monday, Haley made Obama Chili with the kids, which was highly successful and she has also been doing sprouting activities with kids lately. My groups planted garlic for the winter, are growing herbs indoors, have made salsa, pesto, and other things from the garden, and helped build a cold frame. Interested in a one-time or more appearance? Let me know.
