“Uncovering the Hotel at Enfield Falls”
The Friends of Robert H. Treman State Park offer their annual winter program
about the park on Sunday, February 8, at 3:00 p.m. at Longview. Cornell
archeologist Sherene Baugher and her classes have worked for years uncovering
building sites in the old Hamlet of Enfield Falls in the upper park, a 19th
century agricultural service hamlet that was mostly razed following the
creation of the state park. One of the most interesting buildings, and
mysterious, is the old Enfield Falls Hotel which was a focus for scenic tourism
in the 1800s. The hotel burned before Robert Treman bought the property and no
photograph has ever been located. Professor Baugher will present the results
from work on the site over the past two years on Sunday, February 8 at 3:00
p.m. in the auditorium at Longview on Route 96B just south of Ithaca College.
The program is free and the public is invited!
