Eco Art and Fashions Launch Earth Month in Ithaca

Earth Day has expanded to the entire month of April in Ithaca. One of the first
events of this annual celebration of the planet is an eco-friendly gallery show
by SewGreen at the Community School of Music & Arts, 330 East State Street, in
downtown Ithaca. Titled "R-E-S-P-E-C-T," with a tip of the hat to Aretha
Franklin, the show opens on Friday, April 3 with a reception from 5 to 8 pm and
a green fashion show at 6 pm. Fashions and fiber art pieces by designers of all
ages were chosen based on 100 percent reuse of materials, as well as creativity
and originality. The last day of the exhibit is Saturday, April 25, when
SewGreen will host a community scrap quilting bee in the gallery.

Supporters of the exhibit and events, which are free and open to all, include
the Alternatives Federal Credit Union and the Center for Environmental
Sustainability.

SewGreen is a community program that provides low-cost sewing classes for
children, teens, and adults. The group also runs a reuse and redistribution
program for textiles and sewing machines. Since its start in the fall of 2007,
SewGreen has saved from the landfill more than 3 tons of materials and close to
100 sewing machines. SewGreen is located in the Women's Community Building at
the corner of Cayuga and Seneca Streets in Ithaca. For more information contact
