Homeschool Group Makes Reusable Bags for Food Pantry

ITHACA - A local homeschool group called Roots and Shoots has created and will
donate 30 reusable cloth shopping bags made with recycled fabric to Immaculate
Conception Food Pantry in Ithaca. Participants of the food pantry will be
offered a bag when they pick up their groceries. The project is intended to
raise awareness about the number of plastic bags in our landfills by
encouraging people to use beautiful and functional cloth shopping bags.

Roots and Shoots is part of a larger organization by the same name, started by
Jane Goodall. It is a youth-driven, global network of more than 8,000 groups in
almost 100 countries. Together, youth of all ages are taking action to improve
our world through service projects that make a difference in our environment,
and for the people and animals that live in it. To learn more about this
organization, visit www.rootsandshoots.org.

The Cloth Shopping Bag Project was the result of a collaboration between Roots
and Shoots and Sew Green, an Ithaca-based program which teaches people about
sustainable sewing and fashion. Sew Green donated all of the fabric to our
group for the project. To learn more about Sew Green, visit www.sew-green.org.
