For those of you following the natural gas drilling issue, some possibly good
news from PA.

I say possibly because Oakmont is a suburb of Pittsburgh with relatively little
open land and hence little room for drilling to occur, and NY is still decades
behind PA in its state and local regulatory framework, including in the area of
local zoning.

Rural communities in PA will likely not be able to stop gas drilling through
zoning, but the court decision has open the way for substantially increased
oversight by local governments in terms of where companies will be able to
drill and possibly for local governments to set conditions like minimum
setbacks from streams and wells.
