Hello. Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Ithaca Green Building
Alliance are once again hosting the Ithaca (area) Green Buildings
Open House, October 3-4. This year's event will be even bigger and
better than previous years': we're adding sites and will even be
featuring speakers on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Complete information is below, but first I would like to let you
know that we are starting to put the brochure together for the event
and we will be offering ads. If you know of any businesses who would
like to be represented, please forward this information. We cannot
promise space, but will make every effort to accomodate everyone.
The format of the brochure will be the same as last year, so a full
page is 7 1/2 (max; 7 1/4 better) x 4 1/2; a half page is 3 1/2 x 4 1/2.
We're doing a print run of 1000 books, which will be distributed
around town and provided at each site on the tour.
The inside will be all black & white, but the cover (front and back)
will be color this year.
We're keeping the rates the same as last year:
1/2 page: $75
full page: $150
back cover (color): 1/2 page: $150; full page: $300
We can also print a limited number of business-card-size ads, if
they're vertical orientation only: $50
If you are interested in advertising, please send us your ad ASAP,
preferably in pdf format.
DEADLINE IS SEPT. 1
Please e-mail all ads to Apollonya Porcelli at
[email protected], and copy me (send any questions to both
of us as well).
Thank you!

And now, some information about the weekend:
2009 ITHACA GREEN BUILDINGS OPEN HOUSE
Sat-Sun, October 3-4, 2009, 10am - 4pm
More than 25 homes and businesses that use renewable energy and/or
eco-friendly building practices will be open to the public for
self-guided tours during this FREE 2-day event. Homeowners and/or
builders will be on hand to discuss their work and answer questions
about solar energy, wind power, straw bale construction, timber
framing, non-toxic finishes, recycled materials, and more. Half of
the sites will be open each day. Visit http://ccetompkins.org for
details on specific sites and van or walking tours. Call (607)
272-2292 or email [email protected] for more information. Presented
by the Ithaca Green Building Alliance and Tompkins County
Cooperative Extension, with support from Ithaca College, in
conjunction with the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association and
the American Solar Energy Society.
New this year: Speakers Friday and Saturday 7-9pm!
At the Roy H. Park Center for Business and Sustainable Enterprise,
Ithaca College (with tours of this LEED-Platinum-certified building at 6pm).
Friday: Get a slide-show preview of the homes and businesses on the
tour and hear a panel of people who worked on them talk about the
stories behind these projects-including design considerations,
materials choices, and lessons learned. $5 suggested donation.
Saturday: As Associate Editor at BuildingGreen, LLC, in Brattleboro,
VT, Mark Piepkorn, is at the forefront of the green building
movement. He'll be talking about lifecycles of building materials
and houses and simple basics of how to build (and rebuild) green. $5
suggested donation.

Weekend

Hello friends,
Musefest is THIS WEEKEND and we still need help with
reducing waste. In return for only eight hours of volunteer time, you get free
admission to the festival for the whole weekend, as well as camping.
Zero Waste volunteers at Musefest will educate event
attendees (what's compostable, what's recyclable, etc.), manage
compost-recycle-trash bins, sort recyclables, and help keep the grounds clean
and tidy.
Check out www.musefest.org for a list of this year?s stellar
performers, and other details. If you've never been to Musefest,
take a look to
see what you've been missing!
If you?re interested in helping out, email Abbie at
[email protected] (shifts listed below for reference ? all shifts currently
have openings).
Thanks and hope to
hear from you soon!

benefit your home or business! We will be conducting product demos,

will also be an area for kids with educational solar kits. Refreshments
served.
It will be a fun and informative event for all. We hope to see you there.
