Introduction to Timber Framing with Rick Lazarus

Timber framing is a traditional building method using large timbers joined
with pegged mortise-and-tenon joints to create the structures of barns,
houses, and other buildings.  In this introductory workshop, an overview of
traditional timber framing techniques will be followed by an outdoor
demonstration.  Participants will receive handout materials and a
bibliography for further reading.  The class is open to people of all
abilities. 

 

Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

Mr. Lazarus, proprietor of Lazarus & Company, House and Barn Riggers, has
worked on, in and under more than 300 houses, barns and other structures.
Over the years his company's specialty has become the structural repair of
timber-framed barns and houses and their foundations. His company has moved
or lifted over 100 buildings. All their work is on antique structures and
repairs are completed using traditional framing techniques but with modern
tools.
