Learn about the Finger Lakes Wine Industry

The Finger Lakes region has grown in prominence as a wine region as vineyards and wineries have expanded. Have you ever wondered what spurred the growth of the wine industry and why this area is suited for grape production? Dr. Timothy Martinson, Senior Extension Associate with the Cornell Viticulture Program, will trace the roots of the industry and discuss why wine grapes do well here, and what has propelled the Finger Lakes into a position of world reknown for winemaking. The program, to be held on Monday, Sept. 21 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at the Tompkins County Cooperative Extension Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca, will provide a very interesting look at one of the prominent agricultural revolutions that has shaped our landscape and created a tourism boom over the past 30 years. There is a $3/person or $5/couple charge for this program payable at the door.

This class is sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County as part of an Ithaca/Tompkins County Harvest Festival that includes a variety of wine and food tastings and events during the next two months. Don't miss the Apple Harvest Festival Sept. 24-27 on the Ithaca Commons!
