Mark Your Calendars -- and help spread the word -- for the *2009 ITHACA GREEN BUILDINGS OPEN HOUSE*
Sat-Sun, October 3-4, 2009, 10am - 4pm More than 30 homes and businesses that use renewable energy and/or eco-friendly building practices will be open to the public for self-guided tours during this FREE 2-day event. Homeowners and/or builders will be on hand to discuss their work and answer questions about solar energy, wind power, straw bale construction, timber framing, non-toxic finishes, recycled materials, and more. Presented by the Ithaca Green Building Alliance and Tompkins County Cooperative Extension, with support from Ithaca College and the Tompkins County Tourism Board, in conjunction with the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association and the American Solar Energy Society. *New this year: Speakers Friday and Saturday 7-9pm!* At the Dorothy D. and Roy H. Park Center for Business and Sustainable Enterprise, Ithaca College (with tours of this LEED-Platinum-certified building at 6pm). Friday: “If These Bale Walls Could Talk”: A slide-show preview of the homes and businesses on the tour and a panel discussion from some of the people who worked on them. Come hear the stories behind these amazing projects—including design considerations, materials choices, and lessons learned. $5 suggested donation. Saturday: “How Did We Get Here?”: As Associate Editor at BuildingGreen, LLC, in Brattleboro, VT, Mark Piepkorn, is at the forefront of the green building movement.
