re SenecaJean's alerting us to one commentary on the released NY state
document concerning regulation of gas holes in our shale:

I have watched the small, rural and relatively liberal and green but
politically weak town of Lincoln, MA gain an odd ally: the politically
significant town of Cambridge, MA. This happened because our bucolic
acres are a significant portion of the watershed that feeds one of the
reservoirs from which Cambridge drinks. This has in general been a good
thing for causes related to sustainability. For example, Cambridge went to
bat for us when a neighboring town dominated by its Chamber of Commerce
planned an industrial park exit road through our town and along that
reservoir. We had enough voice with county authorities to have that road
made a one-way street though not enough to eliminate it.

I would encourage any alliance building with a power center like NYC when
their sustainability issues align with our own. Others have have written on
this list to tell us where, when and to whom we must speak up to keep
authorities from giving away the store of clean water that, for the moment,
is under our very feet. If you are the Who from whom the bureaucratic
Wickersham Brothers have not yet heard, squeak up!

personally, I am of the opinion that we have too many gasholes already.
