I thought that list subscribers might be interested to know that several Tompkins County residents will be travelling to Copenhagen in December as part of the Youth Delegation to the UN climate negotiations. Participants must cover their own travel expenses, and some are undertaking fundraising efforts through the nonprofit SustainUS to do so, as described below.

My Dearest Friends, Family, and Colleagues,

As you may know, I was recently selected to help lead the United States Youth Delegation to the United Nations climate negotiations in Copenhagen, Denmark from December 7-18, 2009. I am excited and humbled; the talks in Copenhagen are widely recognized as a critical turning point. It is there our international leaders must forge a strong and binding agreement to avert the global climate crisis.

Since the U.N. Bali talks in 2007, scientific evidence has mounted that global climate change is rapidly accelerating and is affecting every community. This December in Copenhagen, we have a historic opportunity to solve the climate crisis, rebuild our economy, and lift millions out of poverty. Just one example: by insulating & sealing every leaky home here in Tompkins County, we will create 1,700 good, green jobs and $34.3 million in energy savings. Also, transitioning to clean energy from the wind and sun means we can keep our dollars in our community and build long-term self-reliance.

As an "Agent of Change" with SustainUS (for more information, see below), I will work with U.S. youth and young people from around the world in submitting policy recommendations, doing interviews with the media, and speaking with government delegates. Youth will bring our message into the negotiation halls: bold and immediate action to ensure a livable world for generations who will follow.

As you can imagine, traveling to Copenhagen is expensive. In addition to my own travel, I am raising funds to bring under-represented youth from Latin America to the historic talks. My goal is to raise $3,500 before I leave in early December. Can you contribute $35, $70, or even $140?

Can you support my work on this crucial issue? Any amount will go a long way towards helping me and my fellow delegates prepare for Copenhagen. In return, I will keep you updated on my experience with emails and pictures from Copenhagen.

Thank you for considering supporting this important work! Please forward my message to others who may be interested.

Dominic
