Public concern about the future of our species' food system surfaces in many forms and arenas. Recent years have demonstrated widespread vulnerability to hunger and malnutrition, competition between food and bio-fuels for land and water, uncertainty about food safety and sustainability of production, and environmental effects of agriculture both near to and far from the farm. Our speakers will raise issues of ethics, movements for alternative food systems, technology, nutrition and risk. The Forum kicks off work on a new Handbook from Oxford University Press on Food, Politics, and Society.

Organized by the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies and the Cornell International Institute for Food, Agriculture and Development (CIIFAD) and co-sponsored by the Polson Institute for Global Development; Department of Government; Cornell Institute for the Social Sciences; and the Development, Governance, and Nature Initiative.
