The civil case, filed yesterday in U.S. District Court in Scranton, looks to stop future drilling in the Marcellus Shale by Cabot Oil and Gas Corp. The suit alleges that Cabot allowed methane and metals to seep into local water wells and acted fraudulently when it said that the chemicals used in its hydraulic fracturing drilling posed no threat. "We've been lied to, we've been pushed around, and enough is enough," said Julie Sautner, whose water was contaminated earlier this year. "We need to push back."
