This news report has lessons for those of us concerned with how other
peoples are defending their land & resources from the hazards of resource
exploitation and mining. The corporate, mining culture, is colonial in
nature, regardless of nations & borders. Bechtel, Exxon & Haliburton will
colonize, with the complicity of elected officials & private land owners,
the Finger Lakes for our natural gas as quickly as any other part of the
country or globe. Local struggles have a global impact.Water is universal.

The nonviolent approach does not immediately change the heart of the
oppressor. It first does something to the hearts and souls of those
committed to it. It gives them new self-respect; it calls up resources of
strength and courage they did not know they had.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
