Hi Jeni,

I want to thank you for LIMBY, and would like anything you've written on the subject. I came up with YIMBY as soon as I heard NIMBY back in the early days of google, because just before I claimed YIMBY, I decided to try this new-fangled search engine, and found that YIMBY was in frequent use. But NIABY just didn't have legs--until the Shaleshock/Sustainable Tompkins NIMBY/morality discussion (I'm the one who cross-posted the SS thread to ST). And I'm so glad I did; it helped spur many wonderful posts, including yours (and Gay's, and others) and perhaps was a factor in Marcellus Challenge.

I have been writing essays on a mix of ecology public policy and individual actions (both against the middle) for years, but publishing very few of them. Have now gotten a few kicks in the butt, and so am putting out more work and am about to launch my own blog, and not just post on others' blog, or write the odd opinion piece in the Journal, etc (tho one of those is in the works on the very topic of NIMBY vs YIMBY/LIMBY/NIABY).

So I like would to include and credit what you have written.

two of my favorites from your list:
DON'T WORRY, BE EFFICIENT
SMALL IS SEXY

Two other favorite slogans are "Making a community while making a living" (Paul Glover re: local currencies/local economies).

"One people, one planet."

Thanks for all your great work.

Margaret

sloganeers!

so i'm making an installation for an art show in florida with the theme "environmentalism by proxy". i think my piece will be called 'eat my words'. it will be a 25 foot wall of environmental slogans made of 3" molasses cookies that the guests take, dip in milk, and eat at the opening - ie, rantings are consumed and disappeared to fuel the next generation of thought/thinking...

but i'm looking for some slogans. environmental slogans. but things you actually think or believe, ie, it is relevant. it pushes the envelope, is not standard 'sustainable' talk, but the parts about sustainability that frustrate you, and make you quip in new and adventurous directions with your thoughts (with cynicism and/or earnestness), but evolve our thinking.

do you have any? or even just ideas/concepts to riff on.

i've just begun and here are a few i'm ok with:

INFINITE GROWTH IS GRAND DELUSION
CONSERVATIVE - IT'S A MISUSED WORD
THE EXPONENTIAL FUNCTION BEGINS WITH ONE
THERE ARE NO WIN-WINS IN AN ECOSYSTEM
DON'T WORRY, BE EFFICIENT
SMALL IS SEXY
IT'S A SMALL SMALL WORLD
I WANT LESS

so how about you email me directly and i'll send the compiled slogans to the list serve.
jeni
