Just a reminder: Come join our little biking party on Sunday -- the shortest ride of the year on the shortest day of the year, the Tour de Solstice. It's mostly about having fun with friends, but we'll have time to ask questions, show off new or old toys, inquire or explain our way with wheels, and swap lies. Don't miss it; it won't take long (we'll probably be done by 2:00) and it will be fun.

Meet at the turtle in Cass Park on Sunday, 1:00 pm. The ride this year will be extended to a full two miles -- though other distances will, of course, be an option. We'll wind up at Collegetown Bagels at Seneca/Aurora, where we can sit around for a while and socialize. Afterward, many of us will ride back to Cass Park.

Really, there's no reason to put away the bike for the winter. If you haven't tried it, you can talk to some of the people coming to the ride about year-round commuting. And, if you have tried it -- well, you know how great it is and you'll be there, right? BikeIt people will also be there to talk about next year's ride to Detroit and how people can get ready for it by riding through the winter.

Oh, for the astronomy police -- I know the solstice is really on Monday. Sunday just seemed like a better day to have a mid-day fun ride. But, it turns out that, as regards the shortness of the day, Monday has no special claim. What with the wobbly axis of the planet and whatever other bits of chaos in the works, the day with least daylight can be off by several days, and Sunday is pretty much as short as they get.
