NEWS ALERT: NYC Dept of Enviro Protection study confirms the worst – gas
drilling (fracking) poses "unacceptable threats to the unfiltered fresh water
supply of nine million New Yorkers." – Reuters
CLICK HERE TO STOP THIS DRILLING PLAN NOW.

New York City's Dept of Enviro Protection has released a study confirming the
grave fracking risk to NYC's water.
"[Fracking] cannot be permitted in the watershed. The risks are simply not
worth it" – Steven Lawitts, DEP
It only takes a minute to write the state DEC – but it could protect New York
City's water supply for decades to come.

Dear Patricia,
Just yesterday, New York City's Acting Commissioner of the Department of
Environmental Protection, Steven Lawitts, was quoted saying, "[Fracking] cannot
be permitted in the watershed. The risks are simply not worth it."
What's the basis for saying so? A year-long, scientific study identifies
substantial risk from fracking: chemical contamination, invasive
industrialization, ruptures to underground water tunnels, diminished reservoir
capacity and other consequences. Results that are – "potentially catastrophic."
But the NY State Dept of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is still taking
comments on its proposal to allow "potentially catastrophic" fracking in the
heart of our water supply. We need to get as many comments to the state DEC as
possible TODAY. Will you help?
Send your message to the state Department of Environmental Conservation before
the fast approaching December 31 deadline and protect our water supply!
Public opposition to fracking in our water supply is mounting. Thousands have
appealed to the DEC to stop the risky drilling. Hundreds have voiced their
protest at DEC hearings. And the media – including The New York Times – is
starting to give the issue big play. And now the DEP's scientific study backs
up what we've all been saying.
But the damage to public health and the environment would not be the only cost.
A filtration plant for NYC's water could cost at least $10 billion dollars to
build – and $100 million per year to run.
How can this proposal to allow risky gas drilling in the heart of our water
supply possibly be worth jeopardizing our health, our environment, and an
almost unimaginable sum of taxpayer dollars?
The answer: It can't.
We must act now to protect our water supply.
Please – don't wait any longer to write the state DEC and raise your voice to
protect our water supply before the public comment period closes December 31.
Sending a message to the state Department of Environmental Conservation only
takes a minute – but it could protect our water for decades to come.
Thank you for your action, and your commitment – with your help, we'll defeat
this outrageous proposal, and preserve the water supply that is so vital to our
health, our environment and the future or our city.
Sincerely,
Michael O'Loughlin
