--BACKGROUND--
*Over the past several years sustainability has become a major thrust at
Cornell. In response to the growing diversity of efforts the University
Assembly created a University Sustainability Committee
<http://assembly.cornell.edu/Sustainability/Home> with representatives
from the faculty, staff, and student bodies. The University
Sustainability Committee recognizes that the month of April and in
particular the week around Earth Day (April 22) are a popular time for
sustainability-related events.In April of 2009 Cornell Sustainability
Month was launched to increase awareness on campus for such events. Last
year over 50 events were included on the official sustainability month
calendar <http://www.sustainablefuture.cornell.edu/events/april2009.php>.
Perhaps your department, organization, sorority, or fraternity has
considered planning a sustainability-related event during the month of
April for the 2010 Cornell Sustainability Month. As a cornerstone of the
2010 Cornell Sustainability Month the Center for a Sustainable Future
has announced that leading climate scientist James Hansen will present
the annual Iscol Environmental Lecture on April 19th. More...

*Is your group considering participation in the 2010 Sustainability Month?
Your encouraged to attend the campus-wide planning forum
4:30pm Tuesday, February 9th in Rice Hall, room 300*
The forum will be an opportunity for groups to hear about other proposed
events, meet leaders from across campus, and explore new synergies among
events.
In particular, the forum will be a place to discuss the proposed 2010
theme for sustainability month: "Climate Action and You". The concept is
to weave topics throughout the month
that help people make a personal connection between themselves and
broader climate-related initiatives. This theme is proposed by the
University Sustainability Committee acknowledging the momentum of
initiatives already underway on campus including the Lights Out student
effort, the Climate Action Plan, advocacy around natural gas drilling,
and energy conservations pilot project going on in CALS and in the
Engineering School.
Even if your only considering an event please attend or inform us about
your idea. There may be others on campus with a similar idea.
If your group is unable to attend for scheduling reasons please respond
with a brief description of your event plans or ideas.
*Please RSVP or send your event details/ideas by Monday, February 8th to
[email protected]
