Dear Sustainable Tompkins community:
In preparation for the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, the Center for Environmental Sustainability invites you to attend a planning meeting from 5:30-7 pm on Thursday, February 25 at Lifelong Learning, 119 W. Court Street in Ithaca (all upcoming meeting dates provided below*). We encourage all of Tompkins County's communities, large and small, to take part in the 40th anniversary celebration honoring our beautiful blue and green planet. This year, Earth Day means time for: A pause - Reflection - Collaboration - Sharing - Celebrating: Building Community. FEBRUARY - MARCH: We suggest a story-telling get-together in your community, where Old Timers and New Timers can tell tales and memories about their links to the land. If you'd like to arrange this, we can help. Call Wally Woods at 272-1312 or email Linnett Short at [email protected] APRIL 16 - 18: Kick off Earth Week with a Global Day of Service during the weekend of April 16-18. CES invites you to attend one or more of our upcoming planning meetings* to help your community organize a creek cleanup (in cooperation with the Cayuga Lake Watershed Network and the Floating Classroom) or other event to recognize the value and beauty of our local lands and communities. APRIL 24: In culmination of these area events, we invite you to break bread, converse and dig in at a potluck on Saturday April 24th where you can meet and converse with others. Join us at the Southside Community Center in Ithaca, from 10 am - 3 pm, with a midday parade around the block and an Earthday Cake. Vendors and exhibitors, this year it's a party, and you're invited - to come and relax, and get to know one another. APRIL 25: We are chartering a bus to Washington DC for the National Earth Day 40th Anniversary Celebration on the Mall. More information on this as it becomes available.
