Not necessarily, POE that Ronan was mentionning can more or less emulate 
that sort of behaviour on Perls built without threading. But it's by far 
not the best option.

Ronan: I don't see what you find wrong with SVGTimer, it's just a 
standardisation of ad hoc methods that already exist, minus their flaws 
and plus coherent design -- nothing special, and almost no extra work 
for implementers.
