there are libraries in various programming languages available. There's eg the shapefile C libraries at http://shapelib.maptools.org/ from Frank Warmerdam, and the The University of Bonn sf4java project apparently includes Java classes for reading Shapefiles (the URL is given on Frank's page but does not seem to work at the moment). Try Googling for furtehr ones, Some open Source GIS packages like JUMP and JTS might also have usefull classes... ____________________________ Barend Köbben International Institute for Geo-information Sciences and Earth Observation (ITC) PO Box 6, 7500AA Enschede (The Netherlands) ph: +31-(0)534874253; fax: +31-(0)534874335 _____________________________
-----Original Message----- From: Sean Montague [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thu 13-Jan-05 00:50 To: svg-developers@yahoogroups.com Subject: [svg-developers] reading shape files and/or geodatabases I've written scripts to export GIS data to SVG within ESRI products, but am now looking to bypass the whole GIS software thing all together. I need either an app that can do such or advice on where and what to start learning to do it my self. The question is, how do I read the long binary data of a shape file/geodatabase and convert iti to text? Thanks. --Sean ----- To unsubscribe send a message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -or- visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/svg-developers and click "edit my membership" ---- Yahoo!
