This is not an SVG 'g' element, so Mozilla won't
treat the attribute named 'id' as an 'ID' attribute.
I suspect you really want:
var SVGNS = "http://www.w3.org/2000/svg";;
myGridGroup = svgdoc.createElementNS(SVGNS, "g");
