In both of these blogs, it is somewhat a conscious choice that things don't look as good in IE as they do in other modern browsers. In some small way it is educating people how far behind IE is in implementing standards. You can do this today simply by using the <object> or <embed> tag. If the user has the plugin installed, the SVG will render.
