8.1.09, Brad Neuberg <bradneub...@gmail.com> : There is no simple way to do it, even using specialized soft like Easy Trace, designed for it. You may convert scanned map to vector object, but result surely will disappoint you. In any event, lots of hand work is a must. I spent some time, trying to write a soft for fast selection of isohypses and converting them to vector objects. there are some problems: many lines crosses each others, some lines has same color as isohypses, closely lying isohypses produces such a mess when one is trying to convert then to vector objects. Some of my friends did it with Corel, but not Corel Trace: they manually draw each line. This is why I think that tips like " use Incscape or Corel Trace" go from people, who hardly tryed do it for themselves.. One of my friends has an idea to create vector map of Kamchatka peninsula. When and if I do it, I'm afraid, I'll have to finish my old prog. Otherwise it'll take too much time
The free and open source package Inkscape can also turn a bitmap into a vector and then save it as SVG.
