David, I've said this before, and I'll say it again: The project is a very different place than in 1994 when 3.0 was released. You can't just unilaterally make such a large, use-visible feature change without discussion. Your history lesson is interesting, but we've moved beyond BSD in so many different ways. Also, I'm pretty sure that you've misread the NetBSD sources, since I never see that output when I build NetBSD.
