It is also built as part of make universe/tinderbox. I've tended to only build a few specific kernel configs to cover crypto drivers not built in amd64's GENERIC build (i386 GENERIC for glxsb, MPC85XX for sec, XLP64 and OCTEON for the mips ones, aarch64 GENERIC for armv8crypto).
