Equally respectfully, if you’re comparing libevent and libdispatch at all, then 
you’re only getting about 10% of what libdispatch actually is.  The event 
handling piece is really just a small fraction of it.  For a really nice 
overview written by someone *not* from Apple, I recommend:

Libdispatch is also highly portable.  I don’t think there’s an OS flavor it 
*hasn’t* been ported to at this point.
