After digging through the Makefiles, I found that you guys have commented
out a few lines in this file:
http://swfmill.org/trac/browser/trunk/src/Makefile.am. Should the lines to
build sources from xsl supposed to be commented out? I uncommented a few of
them and was able to get the make to get further along, but still broken.

What type of environment should I be running in? The other thing I'm
thinking about is if the configure didn't work properly (even though it said
it did). I had a few dependency problems when initially configuring, but was
able to work those all out.
