localization is a complex task that some people make careers out of.  you
definitely need to get up to speed on issues such as character sets, UTF
encoding, and right-left versus left-right languages.

there are all kinds of little things to understand, including how to leave
enough space for phrases that may take up two lines in one language or two
words in another.

google is your friend, try doing some basic searches on the subject.  :)
