.. wshich on second thoughts was, I suppose, a tad unhelpful! ;o)

Are you sure you actually typed what you should have typed?

Are you sure the pdf is formatted correctly?

Because.. a quick test of the lates version under both Linux/Windows, and the 
pdf2swf
command functions as it should, in this instance, the '%' character being 
replaced
with consecutively increasing numbers per page of the pdf.

If the behaviour persists. You could link to the apparently 'offending' pdf, and
state the SWFTools version, and o/s under which you are running.
