If you weren't a fan, sort of begs the question why you used MediaWiki in the 
first
place. ;o)   You could always have done down the Perl or Python route.

Myself, I'm sort of impartial.  I agree though, since all the data is in 
MediaWiki
format, makes sense to keep it for that way for now.  Better to have one wiki 
than
no wiki.
