Joining us at the session will be Mr. Aldo Gangemi and Dr. Valentina Presutti from the Semantic Technology Laboratory of the National Research Council (CNR) of Italy in Rome. They will be presenting on the topic of "Pattern-based Ontology Design." Abstract: ... Ontologies are fundamental elements for making sense and allowing reuse of the huge amount of structured data that is being published on the (Semantic) Web. Designing good ontologies is non-trivial, to say the least. In this session our presenters will describe ontology design patterns, along with an associated method, called eXtreme Design. They will show us why such a method can help ease the ontology design task. They will also be talking about an associated initiative, ontologydesignpatterns.org, a web portal based on SemanticMediaWiki technology, aimed at collecting ontology design patterns as well as good practices and good ontologies, and at supporting their discussion, evaluation, and reuse. They will also describe the certification procedure of ontologydesignpatterns.org, which is performed by means of Evaluation WikiFlow, a SemanticMediaWiki extension that they have developed for supporting evaluation workflows. As before, a Q&A and open discussion segment is planned for this session, and will take place right after the speakers' presentations. *Conference Call Details*: * Date: Thursday, 05-February-2009 * Start Time: 10:30am PST / 12:30pm CST / 1:30pm EST / 7:30pm CET / 18:30 UTC o see world clock - http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=2&day=5&year=2009&hour=10&min=30&sec=0&p1=224 * Expected Call Duration: ~1.5 hours * Dial-in Numbers: o When calling in from a phone, use Conference ID: "4389979#" o from a US telephone (US): +1-218-486-3600 o from Europe, call: + Italy 0848-390-179 + Germany 01805-00-7642 + UK 0870-738-0765 Please refer to full agenda and details (including dial-in numbers for more European countries) at the session wiki page at: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2009_02_05 This event, like all Ontolog virtual events, is open and free of charge.
