You're right about the religious wars, they're sort of pointless because 
we all
know that Linux is for....ahem... :)

chrooted, which takes away most of the worries.  I believe a lot of Linuxen
have similar features.

Many of the security problems with IRC (like EFNET and UNDERNET) come from
31337 h@x0r script kiddies engaging in personal vendettas, or taking 
taking down
servers to create net splits so they can get ops.  And as we're all mature
adults here...
