Growing up in LA, I used to watch the Lakers on a local TV station, which
broadcast all of the regular-season games. Chick Hearn, one of the best
announcers basketball ever had, called the games. Come the playoffs, however,
the Lakers' TV broadcasts would move to one of the networks, which had their
own announcers. Hearn would continue to call the games on local radio, so many
die-hard fans, such as myself, would watch the games on TV with the sound
turned down, and continue to listen to Chick on the radio.

The Rose Parade put an interesting twist on this. In Los Angeles it's usually
broadcast on a local channel, with a couple of very saccharin hosts naming the
floats and proving lightweight chatter. A local FM radio DJ, Frazer Smith,
would watch the broadcast in his booth, and broadacast an "alternative"
commentary, usually very vulgar, and very very funny. It was always much more
fun to turn down the TV and listen to Frazer's comments than to rely on the two
clone hosts on the TV.
