Sadly, future audiences will neither know or care about such a reputation. -----Original Message----- From: swprograms-boun...@hard-core-dx.com [mailto:swprograms-boun...@hard-core-dx.com] On Behalf Of Richard Cuff Sent: Monday, January 31, 2011 14:41 To: ODXA; Shortwave programming discussion Subject: [Swprograms] BBC World Service must be reinvented after the pain of cuts | Media | The Guardian
This is from Richard Sambrook, who ran the World Service (as part of Global News) from 2004 through 2010. One quote that I would take issue with: "...reinvent a vision of the World Service fit for today: multimedia, differentiated by its global intelligence, addressing the needs of younger and older audiences, clearly focused on the issues of today's world rather than living on a reputation forged through the conflicts of the 20th century. ..." Like it or not, it's that reputation, earned through time, that is the justification for spending even a dime on the World Service, in my opinion...so said reputation shouldn't be discounted so quickly.
