Podcasts permit a shift of listening time from a set appointment to virtually
any convenient occasion. I do it while taking my daily (more or less) 3 mile
walk, while I’m “plodding along”.

While there are thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of great podcasts from
other sources, the ones sponsored via public radio have been vetted through the
worthy objectives of the medium.

Here’s what I’ve been listening to recently. I hope you might find these
suggestions — in roughly 90 minute bites -- helpful in enhancing your own
enjoyment of radio, our favorite medium.

“An FCC Commissioner Sounds the Alarm. Plus, the Finale of The Divided Dial”
ON THE MEDIA - NPR and WNYC New York Public Media
The soon-to-be lone Democratic commissioner at the FCC speaks out against what
she calls the weaponization of her agency. Plus, the final episode of The
Divided Dial introduces the unlikely group trying to take over shortwave radio.

“Sarah Silverman; Cole Escola”
FRESH AIR - NPR and WHYY Philadelphia
Her parents died nine days apart, but Sarah Silverman gets the last laugh in
"PostMortem": Silverman's father and stepmother are buried under one tombstone
that reads: "Janice and Donald, who loved to laugh." The loss was a starting
point for Silverman's "cathartic" Netflix comedy special.
Willie Nelson and Ken Pomeroy make beautiful music for tumultuous times: On
Cruel Joke, Pomeroy, age 22, sings with an acoustic twang about farms and
cowboys. The 92-year-old Nelson's Oh What a Beautiful World is an album of
covers of songs by Rodney Crowell. (48”)
