Podcasts permit a shift of listening time from a set appointment to virtually
any convenient occasion. I do it while taking my daily (more or less) 3 mile
walk, while I’m “plodding along”. While there are thousands, perhaps tens of
thousands, of great podcasts from other sources, the ones sponsored via public
radio have been vetted through the worthy objectives of the medium. Here’s
what I’ve been listening to recently. I hope you might find these suggestions
— in roughly 90 minute bites -- helpful in enhancing your own enjoyment of
radio, our favorite medium.

[Apoligies for the long gap between newsletters. Most of my podcast listening
takes place on my “power” walks which due to a balky arthritic knee forced a
suspension of such activity foir a time. But that seems to have resolved
itself with some care, so we’re back.]

“Loudon Wainwright III and k.d. lang”
THE MUSIC SHOW - ABC Radio National
Loudon Wainwright III is a songwriter who falls somewhere between Woody Guthrie
and Tom Lehrer. As well as being a storyteller and comedian, he's the father of
a brood of musical children including Rufus and Martha Wainwright. He's 80 now
and planning his first Australian tour in over twenty years.
And from The Music Show's archives, another chance to hear host Andrew Ford’s
favourite of a few interviews with Canadian singer k.d. lang, who spoke to him
about creating a great Canadian songbook with her album "Hymns of the 49th
Parallel". (54”)

“No Coincidence, No Story”
THIS AMERICAN LIFE - NPR and WBEZ Chicago Public Media
We asked listeners to send us their best coincidence stories, and we got more
than 1,300 submissions! There were so many good ones that we decided to make a
whole show about them. From a chance encounter at a bus station to a romantic
dollar bill to a baffling apparition in a college shower stall. (62”)
