Relational Autonomy, Normative Competence and Perfectionism

 

Abstract

 

In this paper I discuss two examples from health care contexts in order to
defend a recognition-based, relational account of the principle of respect
for autonomy. In developing this argument I also respond to John Christman's
critique of substantive relational theories as implicitly endorsing moral
and political perfectionism.
