"Aesthetic Judgment and the Cognitivist/Noncognitivist Debate".

Abstract

The debate between cognitivists and non-cognitivists has led philosophers to
overlook the option of there being judgments that, even if they are true,
cannot constitute knowledge, no matter how well supported by reasons. This
paper argues that aesthetic judgments about works of art are judgments of
this intermediate kind. A key theme is that aesthetic judgments do not
satisfy a necessary condition of knowledge, namely, that it be transmissible
via testimony.
