Philo Agora's talk tomorrow, Tuesday, March 18 at its Glebe cafe
location, will be Sam Alexander on The Western Ethic, a new paradigm
for values, ethics and morals.
This talk is an attempt to make sense of the current value system
inherent in western society. It refers to the outcome as the "Western
Ethic" to differentiate it from the established and understood
"Christian Ethic."
Values are the basis on which we make decisions on right and
wrong. Ethics is the study of these values that gives us the rules,
laws or moral codes that show us the way on how we should behave.
Morals refers to our beliefs and actions in respect of these rules of
behaviour.
Sam , a joint convenor of Philo Agora, has come to the conclusion
that he is a hypocrite - believes one thing (Values), preaches a
second thing (Ethics), and practices a third (Morals).
Tuesday March 18 the Fair Trade Coffee House, 33 Glebe Point Road,
Glebe, $6.00 includes a free cup of coffee or tea. 7.30 - 9.00pm. If
you want a meal, come early, as the chef goes off at 7.30 , but will
