Dear All

This Wed 30 April we have John Wood (UBC) at 3.30 in The Refectory who will be talking on

"Cognitive economics and Peircean abduction"

Abstract

Everyone agrees that deduction is truth-preserving and that induction is likelihood-enhancing. There is an important sense in which it may be said that the distinctive feature of abduction is that it is ignorance-preserving. Considerations pro and contra are considered here.

There will be a talk at 2PM in the dept seminar room to explain the background of the talk to graduate students and other interested parties.
