The projects will use recognition theory, as it has been developed in recent strands of philosophy and critical social theory, to explore some significant aspect of contemporary political life. The successful candidates will enrol as PhD students at both Queen's and Macquarie under the terms of a co-tutelle agreement between the institutions. The scholarships are available to domestic (UK and Australian) and international students. Applicants should have equivalent qualifications to a UK Masters degree or an Australian undergraduate degree with first class honours in a relevant discipline. The scholarships pay a living allowance, currently £12,600 in UK and $20,007 (tax exempt) in Australia per annum, for a tenure of 3 years full time (with a 6 month extension possible in Australia), subject to satisfactory progress. Tuition fees will also be funded for the scholarship tenure. Additional support for projects and for national and international travel will be available. Opportunities for research assistance work, teaching, and other professional development activities may be available for suitable applicants.
