Eric Gans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Gans) is Professor of French at UCLA and the author of ground-breaking books such as /The Origin of Language/ (University of California Press, 1981), /Originary Thinking: Elements of Generative Anthropology/ (Stanford UP, 1993), and /The Scenic Imagination/ (Stanford UP, 2008). Gans is a world leader in the field of cultural theory and his work on the origin of language is seminal both in the US and abroad. His most original and significant contribution is the discussion of the history of human culture as a genetic or 'generative' development of the origin of language.

Eric Gans is Visiting Professor in the School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry. His visit has been made possible through the contribution of SOPHI, SLC, SLAM, SSPS, The Faculty of Arts, The University of Sydney; and the University of Western Sydney.
