Philo Agora's talk next Tuesday, November 11 will be Abhijit Pal: Matter over Mind

Descartes proposed that the mind was independent of the body, with the pineal gland as the link between the two. Intuitively Cartesian dualism- maintaining that the mind was separate to the body – is attractive... Unfortunately, accepting Cartesian dualism requires us to reject two major fields of twentieth century scientific inquiry; neurology and psychopharmacology. This talk will summarise the fundamentals of both disciplines, and outline some of their more interesting findings. A brief discussion of the relationship between these fields of study and philosophy itself will conclude the talk.

Abhijit is currently undertaking an a honours degree in neurological science.
