On Monday, February 16, 2009, the School of History and Philosophy at the University of New South Wales will be holding a workshop on Gilles Deleuze's 'The Logic of Sense'. The workshop, to be held in the Morven Brown Building, room G4, will begin at 11am and will run until approximately 4pm. We are pleased to be able to announce that Prof. James Williams (University of Dundee) and Dr. Louise Burchill will be in attendance. Prof. Williams, who works primarily in the area of contemporary French philosophy (Deleuze, Lyotard, Foucault, Kristeva, Derrida, Badiou), is the author of numerous books and articles on Deleuze, including 'Gilles Deleuze's Logic of Sense - A Critical Introduction and Guide' (Edinburgh UP, 2008). He will be speaking about Series 23 and 24 of The Logic of Sense, and will introduce matters with reference to a short story by Claudio Magris, "To Have Been", available on the web in English: http://www.greeninteger.com/green_integer_review/issue_3/Claudio-Magris.htm and in Italian ('Essere già stati'): http://www.sagarana.it/rivista/numero21/narrativa1.html Dr. Burchill's publications have explored such subjects as Deleuze and translation, the 'feminine' in contemporary French philosophy (focusing on authors such as Deleuze, Derrida, Irigaray, Kristeva and Lyotard), the notion of 'space' in the work of Derrida and Deleuze, and the intersection of Derrida and cinema. She has translated into English many of Julia Kristeva essays and is currently working on a book project with her. She is also the translator of Alain Badiou's 'Deleuze - The Clamor of Being'. Please note that Dr. Burchill will be also be speaking on "Derrida and the (Spectral) Scene of Cinema" on Tuesday, February 17, 3-5pm, room 327, Webster Building, The University of New South Wales.
