Restraint (temperance, self-control) is a virtue not much heard of since the
Sixties, when autonomy and self-indulgence became the dominant ideals. But
coping with economic depressions and temptations to addictions needs basic
skills in looking after oneself, i.e. temperance. James Franklin will give a
brief account of the 'Restraint Project',
